North County Rape Crisis & Child Protection Center

MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of the North County Rape Crisis and Child Protection Center is to reduce the incidence of and vulnerability to sexual assault, human trafficking and child abuse by providing education and prevention skills to community children and adults and to alleviate the trauma experienced by survivors of these crimes by providing direct services.

We serve Santa Maria and Lompoc Valleys. We provide services to the LGBT&Q communities and have hosted specific outreach events such as a youth poetry slam a few years ago.

California Teachers Association

MISSION STATEMENT

MISSION STATEMENT

We are a group of progressive weirdos, queerdos, radicals, and intellectuals organizing to encourage a more consistently confident, colorful, egalitarian and engaged community. Through political action, enlightened thinking, activism, art, music, workshops, reading groups, etcetera and what have you, we are here to facilitate, ignite, incite, and call for change!

TQC is proud to have participated in Santa Maria Pride each year, and to amplify and support HOPE Santa Maria whenever possible. We organize and participate in events all over the Central Coast, and are always looking for new members with creative ideas for building community and making change together.

Democratic Club of Santa Maria Valley

MISSION STATEMENT

The Democratic Club of Santa Maria Valley, under charter from the Santa Barbara County Democratic Central Committee, is committed to preserving and fostering the Democratic Party’s principles and it’s spirit of dedication in support of the rights, liberties and dreams of all citizens of American society, with equality and without exclusion, through education, voter registration and personal participation in the political process in all local, state and national political campaigns and elections for public office and political initiatives and referenda.

Members of the Club (individually and on behalf of the Club) attend rallies and events in support of LGBTQ+ individuals and issues. We support the LGBTQ+ community by tabling at events they organize, and by inviting members of the LGBTQ+ community to plan, assist, and participate in our events. We share information with members and non-members about LGBTQ+ issues and events via a multitude of platforms. We currently have a member of the LGBTQ+ community serving on our Board.

Casa Pacifica provides crisis services to any youth up to the age of 21, and we have highly skilled, trauma informed staff who work to create an environment of inclusivity and respect for all individuals within the LGBTQ+ community. We support and participate in Pride events throughout Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, and work with SOGIE youth regularly to help inform our practices, working to ensure everyone feels support by and connected to our crisis staff when in need.

To secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons. We envision a just society in which all individuals have equal rights without regards to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, etc

We advocate for a just society for all individuals and assist individuals with complaints under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by investigating complaint and/or referring to an attorney who specializes in the complaint area. Additionally, our six priority areas: a) Federal Advocacy - the promotion and protection of civil rights for all individuals b)Education Advocacy - ensuring high quality educational opportunities for all Americans c) Criminal Justice - we advocate for smarter criminal justice policies to keep our communities safe, including a fair and equal criminal justice system d) Environment - advocating for a fair labor environment e) Housing & Health Care we advocate for securing affordable adequate housing and health care for all Americans f) Economic Development we work to empower local communities with the necessary education, resources, and partnerships to develop sustainable economic models that advance diversity and equity; that enhance the capacity of African Americans and other underserved groups through financial economic education; individual and community asset building initiatives; diversity and inclusion in business hiring, career advancement and procurement; and monitoring financial banking practices.

Pacific Pride Foundation

MISSION STATEMENT

For the past 44 years, Pacific Pride Foundation's advocacy and education efforts meet the ongoing and emerging needs of a diverse population in order to create a thriving and visible LGBTQ+ community and to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS.

Though impacted by COVID-19 all of our core programs operate virtually on behalf of (and during non-COVID times operate in person at) our Santa Maria office (123 S. College St). We're the only LGBTQ+ & HIV/AIDS Counseling Center in Santa Barbara County; support a youth-led PROUD Summer Program with county-wide reach (youth 12 - 17, 18 okay if in high school, welcome from across the Central Coast); provide a bi-weekly physically distant Syringe Exchange in Santa Maria, provide live LGBTQ+ Competency Training (online only now, but in person during non-COVID times); and support in-school Genders & Sexualities Alliances during the school year -- to name some of our impactful programs and services supporting Santa Maria's LGBTQ+ communities and families.

It Gets Better Project

The It Gets Better Project is a nonprofit organization with a mission to uplift, empower, and connect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth around the globe.

TCC serves many of the transgender and non-binary people living and working in the Santa Maria Valley. We offer support groups, advocacy and help guide people to local medical professionals.

 

Community Health Centers of the Central Coast

MISSION STATEMENT

To enhance the health status of all people in the Central Coast of California, with special emphasis on the medically under served, by providing accessible, affordable, comprehensive and quality healthcare services, through well trained professional staff, in strategically located health centers.

We provide medical, behavioral health, pediatric, chiropractic, optometry, and dental services to all community members. We are a patient centered medical home providing integrated healthcare services. We offer sliding fee programs for individuals who do not have insurance. We also offer hormone therapy services to any patient who is interested. We facilitate a support group for LGBTQI youth to create a safe space for dialogue. 

 

Domestic Violence Solutions

MISSION STATEMENT

We provide safety, shelter and support for individuals and families affected by domestic violence and collaborate with community partners to raise awareness regarding the cause, prevalence and impact.

SURJ is a national network of groups and individuals working to undermine white supremacy and to work toward racial justice. Through community organizing, mobilizing, and education, SURJ moves white people to act as part of a multi-racial majority for justice with passion and accountability.

Any discussion about oppression and marginalization must include the intersectionality of race, class, and gender, categories that are overlapping in people's identities and experiences. SURJ-SM works to help its members understand the complexity of prejudices that exist and how these multiple forms of discrimination combine in the experiences of marginalized individuals and/or groups.

Future Leaders provides a comprehensive youth empowerment program in our public schools and in the community year-around. Just Communities provides training and coaching to organizations that want to address heterosexism and genderism in order to become more inclusive and equitable of LGBTQ+ people and families. We work with schools, nonprofits, law enforcement, government, health care providers, businesses, and more.

Specific programs include:

Safe Schools: Just Communities’ Safe Schools Program is a one to two-day training designed to help K-12 educators, administrators, staff, and high school students better understand the root causes of sex & gender-based harassment, bullying, and violence; develop a common language and framework for understanding and talking about the issues;and engage in problem solving and action planning designed to make schools safer for all students. HOW DOES YOUR ORGANIZATION SPECIFICALLY SUPPORT LGBTQ+ ISSUES IN THE SANTA MARIA VALLEY?

 We have found that sometimes LGBTQ+ youth are drawn to the military because it can appear to be a safer and more welcoming community than their families of origin. This is not always the case as there is still a lot of homophobia and risks for LGBTQ+ recruits in the military culture and environment. Our goal is to make sure that anyone considering enlisting in the military understands the stakes and to know about nonmilitary options for college financial aid, job training and being of service.
